I have been seeing plenty of people discussing whether or not my alma mater should be ranked as highly as they are. Well I am hear to tell you that I probably agree that as a team they are probably not the fifth best team in the country. The difference is because of the preseason rankings, which had Wisconsin as the ninth ranked team, they should be the fifth ranked team.
The simple fact of the matter is that Wisconsin hasn’t lost a game. Even though they have played one of the easiest schedules this season, I find it hard to penalize a team for winning no matter their competition. Good teams should be winning games that they are expected to win, something that can’t be said for team people probably think are better than Wisconsin. The Badgers can’t help that this schedule that they put together years ago worked out so that they likely won’t play a top 25 team before the Big Ten Championship.
The first “challenge” they will face this season will be Michigan, which has not looked like a top 25 team for much of the season, and has already lost two games. The game in which people will find out what Wisconsin is made of is the Big Ten Championship game against either Penn State or Ohio State.
While I find it unlikely that Wisconsin will win the Big Ten, if they do so it will be impossible to deny them a spot in the College Football Playoff.
