McFadden had so much promise coming out of Arkansas, but he was never able to live up to the hype. This is primarily due to all the injuries he suffered during his career. He suffered 20 injuries during his time in the NFL, many of which were ankle or hamstring injuries.
The ankle and hamstring injuries kept McFadden from living up to his potential, because they were recurring injuries. This is why soft tissue injuries are a nightmare for a skill position player, because once they suffer the injury it is more likely to happen again. I wouldn’t say that McFadden was a bad player, because when healthy he showed that he could produce, going for over 1,000 yards twice. It was just that he was only played 16 games twice, which derailed his career.
I’ll just say I wish we could have seen what McFadden was truly capable of before he dealt with all these injuries, but unfortunately we will never know how good he could have been.
